Most engineered timber floors can be sanded and refinished 1 to 2 times, depending on the thickness of the wear layer.
Solid hardwood floors can typically be sanded and polished 3 to 4 times over their lifetime.
Moisture-cured polyurethane provides a highly durable, glossy finish that’s ideal for high-traffic timber floors. However, it has a stronger odor and longer curing time. Waterborne finishes, on the other hand, are low-odor, eco-friendly, and dry faster, making them popular for residential floor polishing in Christchurch. Our floor sanding specialists can help you choose the right finish based on your floor type, lifestyle, and environmental preferences.
To keep your timber floors looking their best, clean them regularly using a damp mop and a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for wooden flooring. Avoid harsh chemicals or excessive water, as they can damage the finish. For long-term timber floor maintenance, we recommend placing rugs in high-traffic areas, using felt pads under furniture, and scheduling periodic recoating with a floor sanding expert to preserve durability and shine.
Movement in timber flooring is usually caused by changes in humidity and temperature, which cause the wood to expand and contract. This is a natural characteristic of timber. However, improper installation or lack of regular maintenance can worsen the problem. To reduce movement and protect your timber floors long-term, it’s important to work with qualified floor sanders in Christchurch and follow a regular floor maintenance and restoration plan.
Prolonged exposure to UV rays and direct sunlight can cause fading, discoloration, and uneven aging in timber flooring. Certain wood species may darken, while others become lighter. To protect your timber floors, we recommend using UV-resistant floor coatings and scheduling regular hardwood floor refinishing. Our team in Christchurch can help apply protective finishes that maintain your floor’s natural look and reduce sun damage.
